Howe0Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about the NJHS chapter at Rogers-Herr. If your question is not among these, please feel free to contact the chapter advisor!
1. Are students in all grades eligible for admittance into the club?
No. The club is only open to 7th and 8th grade students at RHMS. To be considered for membership, one of the requirements is based on a student's grades from their previous year in middle school.
2. My child is in 6th grade this year. Is there anything he/she can be doing to better his/her chances of getting into the NJHS?
First, a 6th grader should be working hard to get the best grades they can. A minimum GPA of 93 the previous year is required to receive an application to the NJHS. Also, they should be sure to be involved in various extracurricular activities at and/or away from school, perform community service, and build strong relationships with teachers so they can be used as references.
3. My child is in 7th or 8th grade but was not at RHMS last year. Can they be considered for membership in NJHS?
Yes! A transcript including grades from the previous school showing the minimum 93 GPA would allow a student that is new to Rogers-Herr to be eligible to receive an application to join the NJHS.
4. My child received an application to join NJHS based on their GPA last year. Are they now members of the NJHS?
No. The application must be completed and returned by the stated deadline. All returned applications are reviewed by the NJHS Faculty Council and, based on the included rubric, the students that meet the necessary requirements are then invited to join as full members.
5. My child was in NJHS last year. Do they have to re-apply this year?
No. A student that was a member in good standing the previous school year is automatically a member the following year and therefore does not need to complete another application. However, there is a $10 dues that needs to be turned in at the beginning of each year.
6. What kind of information is needed for the application?
Great question! A sample of the evidence packet used for selecting members is included in the link below.
